If an employer has set goals so unrealistic that they can't be reached and thus an employee is resigning, this letter can help spell the problem out for management and perhaps spur changes.
Due to the unrealistic goals set for my performance, I must resign.
As I mentioned at the time, it was (and remains) virtually impossible for me, or any other rep, to increase sales by 400%. There are many, many factors that go into our business that I won’t go into here, but I’m not at all surprised that I failed to reach this goal that is so far removed from reality.
I hope that you will reconsider the goals that you set for your sales team. Otherwise, you will be seeing a lot of turnover and will have to invest instead in rebuilding client relationships.
