In the unusual event that an employee develops an allergy to a substance or product at work, this letter explains that they have no choice but to resign.
I’ve received the results of the allergy tests I mentioned to you, and it’s just as I feared. I am allergic to the very product that we produce here in the factory. This explains so much about my recent ailments, and it is a relief to finally have answers.
Unfortunately, I must now resign from XYZ Company, effective immediately. Under most circumstances, in most workplaces, my allergy could be accommodated. But since XYZ is a company that deals solely and specifically in the production of the substance to which I’m allergic, I see no way forward.
I will be pursuing unemployment benefits in light of the unusual nature of my departure, and will be in touch with HR about other matters.
